Physics, Astronomy, and Materials Science Scholarships

Contact the department at (417) 836-5131 for application and deadline information. Scholarship amounts may vary annually. Unless otherwise noted, students must be undergraduates enrolled full-time (12 hours).

John W. Northrip III Award
Student must be a junior or senior physics major with an overall 3.0 GPA and a 3.0 GPA in physics, astronomy, and material science courses.  

Howard Petefish Award
Student must be enrolled as a junior with an overall GPA of 3.0 and a GPA of 3.5 in physics. The award will be made at the end of student's junior year.

Pre-Engineering/Engineering Physics Scholarship
Student must be an undergraduate enrolled in a program in the Physics, Astronomy, and Material Science department. When awarded to an incoming freshman, consideration will be given to high school performance, college potential and leadership qualities. When awarded to a student enrolled at the sophomore level or higher, the student must have maintained an overall GPA of at least 2.75 and a major GPA of 3.0. Preference will be given to a student who has demonstrated a practical "hands-on" engineering aptitude.

Research Work Grant
Student must be an entering freshman with an ACT of 28 and eligible for calculus. Student will work in departmental research laboratories.

Kenneth A. Soxman Memorial Scholarship
Student must be a junior or above with a minimum GPA of 3.0, and have the desire to teach physics
